Your prayers are needed!

VisionTrust’ newest project is an after-school program in Cruz Blanca, Guatemala. Our Guatemalan Director, Rut, is working with a group of volunteers from her church to minister to some of the poorest children in Guatemala. The community rests on the backside of a mountain where many single mothers and grandmothers live with their precious children and grandchildren in huts made of cornstalk husks and mud. Men are sparse in the community due to lack of employment as well as a low percentage of Christians living in that area.

Rut and her helpers have been meeting with the children several times a week for a little over a year now, providing basic education, Bible stories, evangelism, and food. Because we have not yet found any churches who will commit to helping this project succeed, it has been difficult to provide for the children in this community…. but I believe this is about to change!

3 of the churches I’ve been working with and have been in contact with over the past 2 years are now seriously evaluating partnering with VisionTrust’s project in Guatemala! All 3 of these churches seem very excited and are promising opportunities, but I need you all to cover them with me in prayer.

June 2 Christ Church in Albany, NY has a missions committee meeting to determine its missions partners and goals through 2010. Their missions director, Jon, told me yesterday that what he loved about the idea of partnering with the VisionTrust Guatemala project is that there is a place for everyone in their church to serve and get involved. A mission trip could include construction, or VBS, or medical care, evangelism and/or teaching and training. People who can’t participate on a mission trip can sponsor a child. Everyone (including children and youth) can participate in collecting goods to donate to the children. And everything ties together to build unity in their church by getting everyone involved in the same project!

June 11 OakRidge Methodist Church in NC is sending some of its members to visit the Guatemala project! I am pretty sure they will fall in love with our children and what God is doing there through Rut, but it sure doesn’t hurt to pray for it as well! This church is a very missions-oriented church and I am confident they will send many mission teams to help the Guatemala project if they partner with us.

June 25/26 Door Creek Church in Madison, WI has faithfully partnered with a different community in Guatemala for the past several years. They are forming an orphan care ministry in their church and have chosen to partner with VisionTrust for that ministry, and would like to be part of helping the fatherless in Guatemala as well. They could certainly help VisionTrust’ project in Guatemala, or, they could partner with VisionTrust to start a new Guatemala project in the community they already work in. I will be visiting them June 25/26, please pray for wisdom and God’s leading in this process.

There is a LOT of work to be done in Guatemala, and we will need the involvement of several churches to do all we hope to accomplish with the children there, and to bring the gospel and the love of Jesus to all the children and families in the community.

Please pray for these 3 churches, that God would lead and guide them and give them confidence in spending their time, energy and resources to care for the fatherless, in Christ’ name.
