Shoes donated for all 1400 VisionTrust children in the DR!

I just received this email and photos from Nelson, our director in the DR. A foundation here in the U.S. donated money for all the children in the DR to receive a brand new pair of shoes from Payless DR. What an amazing gift for these children, as most can only afford to have 1 pair of shoes, thus, they go barefoot often to keep their shoes from getting worn out so they can be saved for special occasions.

From Nelson:
Wow! What a day of excitements.. this morning at 9:00 AM the principals of most of our programs were at one of the main Payless shoes stores in Santo Domingo to pick up the shoes for their children! It was a huge amount of shoe boxes, all of them with the name of the child and the name of the program, it was not too complicated to find everybody’s package. By 3:00 pm the principals from all 11 projects had left with a shoe for every child who’s feet were measured weeks ago.

When I returned to Herrera close to noon, the morning section children were receiving their shoes! What a noise, what a rejoice! Everyone of them was so happy and so surprise, the shoes were very, very nice, they were trying them all right away, some girls said they would save them for December, the teachers were so happy to see their children so happy with this great surprise. Some children got a bigger shoes that what they can wear, but the good news is they can go to the store and replace them without problem. Today is a VERY HAPPY DAY for 1,447 children in the Dominican Republic!

Praise the Lord for this generous gift to these beautiful children. The Bible tells us to care for the poor and the oppressed, to care for widows and fatherless children. What a beautiful example of that verse lived out.
